Carmen Marlene (Lasley) Wanatee, “Mi-sa-ke-qua”, 76, of Tama, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Premier Estates of Toledo. A Wake will be held Tuesday evening, February 6, 2018 at the Wanatee Residence, 208 Sac and Fox Road on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Native American Church Services will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the Wanatee Residence, on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the McIntosh Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Larry Lasley Sr. as speaker.

Carmen was born on December 29, 1941, on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Jessup and Leila (Buffalo) Lasley.

She was united in marriage to Myron Isaac Wanatee Sr. on March 5, 1960 in Tama. Carmen was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She liked traveling, going to Pow-Wows, and beading for her family. Carmen was a member of the Native American Church.

Survivors include her children, Myron Wanatee Jr. (Joy) of Marshalltown, Mylene Wanatee, Lowella Balderas (Rupa), Marcus Wanatee (Jennie), and Melinda Wanatee-Diego (Tom) all of Tama; grandchildren, Byron (Kigidi), Eden, Fidencio (Natasha), Monroe, Araya, Kayla, Regina, Tyra, Mira, Enriqueta, Mylik, Salvador Jr., Zekaria, Ella, Consuelo, Shinobi, and Raiden; great-grandchildren, Reanna, Tyron, Maddox, Leilani, Clive, Kevryn and Marcelus; siblings, Priscilla Wanatee (Donald Sr.), Peggy Wanatee (Joe Sr.), Patsy Lasley, Clark Lasley, Mark Lasley, Stella Youngbear (Ray), Eloise Lasley, Darlene Snowball, Amelia Lasley (Orrie Sr.), Verna Davenport, and Johnathan Buffalo (Susan); and many, many more relatives near and far. Carmen was adopted into the Moore family from Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron Wanatee Sr. on October 6, 2017; daughter, Corina Wanatee-Minjares; granddaughter, Consuelo Ann Minjares; sisters, Eloise, Violet, and Nadine; brother, Gordon Sr.; her parents; and grandparents.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
