Marilyn Storm Cory

Marilyn Storm Cory, 100, of Sunnyhill Care Center in Tama, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 with her sons by her side. Marilyn Storm Cory is believed to have been born on September 14, 1917. She came to live with Henry and Leah Storm in the spring of 1924 when it was no longer feasible for her parents to care for her. Marilyn graduated from Tama High School in 1938. She attended Frances Schimer Junior College in Illinois, Grinnell College and received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Drake University in 1943, where she proudly enjoyed sharing she had met Ronald Reagan.

She taught one year at Brooklyn and left her position at Oskaloosa after her mother died. Marilyn and Melvin Duane Cory were married in 1946. Three children were born to this union: Ron (Darla), Barbara and Hank. She also leaves five grandchildren: Regan, Ashley, Rob, Marnie and Ben, as well as 8 great-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild to mourn her memory.

Marilyn was a 50+ year member of Order of Eastern Star, 60+ year member of Chapter EW PEO and 50+ year member of the Tama County I (Iowa) Club, being one of the original members. She and her family held season tickets to Iowa Hawkeye Football games for over 50 years and have many fond memories traveling to numerous bowl games. Marilyn was also a member of Perpetual Care, Oak Hill Cemetery Association, Octagon Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles, as well as Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, Tama Methodist Church and Circle. Marilyn’s greatest joy was her home. She loved sharing the history of her many heirlooms. Marilyn was also fiercely patriotic and proud of the United States of America. She was quietly very philanthropic to her beloved hometown of Tama. A family birthday party honoring her 100th birthday was held in September 2017.

Preceding her in her death were her parents, husband, Duane in 1970 and many close friends.

There will be no visitation. A private family graveside service will be held. Memorials may be directed to the Louise and Lucile Hink Tama Public Library.
