Laurie Jean (Lenhart) Shawver

Laurie Jean (Lenhart) Shawver, 61, of Ashland, MO, formerly Tama, passed away with her husband, Charles and daughter Katy by her side on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Scenic Mountain Medical Center in Big Spring, TX. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Warren Riley officiating. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Laurie was born on February 8, 1956, in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Gladys (Heishman) Lenhart.

She graduated from South Tama County High School in 1974 and received at Bachelor degree in nursing from Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. Laurie was united in marriage to Charles M. Shawver on October 20, 1978 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama. She worked for many years at Columbia Regional Hospital in Columbia, MO and later worked as a traveling nurse. Laurie was active in the Southern Boone Booster Club in Ashland, MO, setting up the concession stand for various high school and middle school events. She was also one of the top Missouri birders having birded about two-thirds of the Missouri Conservation Sites. In addition, Laurie was an avid crocheter having made and given away numerous afghans.

Survivors include her husband, Charles M. Shawver of Ashland, MO; one son, Phillip (Kelly) Shawver of St. Charles, MO, two daughters, Katy Shawver of Big Spring, TX and Sarah Shawver of Blacksburg, VA; one grandson, Jaxyn Renteria of Big Spring, TX; and one sister, Linda (Mike) Albers of Greenville, NC.

Preceding her in death were her parents.
