Paul Roger Whitmore

Paul Roger Whitmore, age 83, passed away on January 7, 2018. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 16 from 5 -7 p.m. at Iles Dunn’s Chapel. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, January 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, followed by reception. Paul’s burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery.

Paul was born on February 17, 1934 in Clutier, Iowa to Floyd and Ruth Whitmore. He was raised on a farm in Toledo, Iowa. Paul attended Toledo High School and University of Northern Iowa, graduating with a degree in Business. He was a 20 year veteran serving in the United States Navy as Lt. Commander. One of Paul’s greatest accomplishments was owning and operating a men’s clothing store, appropriately named, Paul R. Whitmore, Ltd. Traditional clothing for gentlemen. He was proud to be a small business owner and self employed, and would later go on to volunteer for SBA and Score.

Paul was a simple man who enjoyed quality over quantity when it came to life and personal possessions. He was always impeccably dressed, kept a tidy home, and made a point to only sell “conservative suits” in his store. He took pride in walking to work 6 days a week and going to church every Sunday. Paul was a member of Westminster Church for over 50 years. He loved big band music, watching sports, investing in the stock market, and volunteering at the state house. Paul loved spending time with his family, meeting old acquaintances and making new friends. He could carry on a lengthy conversation with anyone, and that would be an understatement.

He had a strong work ethic and was loyal to a fault. His greatest pride were his kids and it made him proud that each one has a higher education degree and are all small business owners like himself.

Paul will be greatly missed by his four children, Paul Roger Whitmore, Jr., Christine Whitmore, Elizabeth (Bill) Terrell, and Katherine (Brendan) Chuapoco; four grandchildren, Stefanie Whitmore, Jazmin and Bodhi Terrell, and Ella Chuapoco; brother, Ray (Teresa) Whitmore; and sister, Jean Dostal; special friend, Lucy Summy and former wife, Pamela Whitmore.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Toodaloo Dad. We love you.
