Leonard Joseph Scheid

Leonard Joseph Scheid, age 89, of Montour, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Living Faith United Methodist Church, Montour Center with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 4 – 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.Leonard was born on November 1, 1927 in rural Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Leonard Joseph and Gladys (Hall) Scheid Sr.\He graduated from Toledo High School in 1946.On August 28, 1950, he was united in marriage to Roberta Tvedt in the Montour Methodist Church. Leonard was initially a brick layer with many companies and then went into general construction where he was a Superintendent of Jobs with Universal Builders in Cedar Rapids. In 2002, he started working at the Meskwaki School in maintenance retiring in 2014 at the age of 87. Leonard was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Montour where he was a trustee for many years and taught Sunday School. He was also a member of Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodge. Leonard was a former school board member in Montour, a member of the Montour City Council and was active in the Montour Fire Department. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and woodworking. Leonard was very active in the community always willing to help out in any way he could.Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Roberta of Montour; his children, Mark (Nancy) Scheid of Garwin, Pamela Calvert of Polk City, Kent (Rachel) Scheid of Montour, and Penni (Mark) Reed of Kissimmee, FL; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leland (Monna) Scheid of Colo, and Bill (Marian) Scheid of Winslow, AZ; one sister, Mary Laird of Creston; and several nieces and nephews.Preceding him in death were his parents; and one sister, Ardis Hemping.Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice or the Living Faith United Methodist Church, Montour Center.
