Everett Warren Coon

Everett Warren Coon, 94, of Montour, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A Graveside Service will be held Monday, November 30, 2015 at 10:30 a,m, at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour.

Everett was born on June 10, 1921, in Miller, South Dakota, the son of Jay and Meta (Sass) Coon.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he was a Gunner’s Mate on the USS Nevada.

He was married to Elsie Coon and together they had two sons, Ron and Rick. They later divorced. Everett had been together with Juanita Maddock for twenty-five years. He was a carpenter and farmer. Everett was a member of the Carpenters Union where he was a former President and the VFW. Carpentry was not only his trade, but it was his passion in life.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Juanita Maddock of Montour; one son, Rick (Darla) Coon of Huron, SD; his grandchildren, Kelsey, Kendra, Katie, Jeremy, Darmi and Ronnica; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Cherry Mae (Roland) Amick of Woonsocket, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Ron Coon; four sisters; and one brother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to a favorite Veteran’s Charity.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is handling the arrangements.
