Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will offer a Mushroom Cultivation Workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Tama County Extension Office, 203 W. High St., Toledo.

The workshop will introduce participants to the basics of growing mushrooms at home, including how to cultivate mushrooms in buckets. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own 2-gallon bucket oyster mushroom grow kit to take home and nurture.

In addition to the hands-on activity, the workshop will explore mushrooms, their role in Iowa ecosystems, and common ways people can cultivate mushrooms in their own homes and backyards.

“This workshop is designed to give participants both information and a hands-on experience they can continue at home,” Gina Buelow with ISU Extension and Outreach said. “Growing mushrooms can be an interesting way to learn more about fungi while trying something new in your own backyard or home.”

Registration is required, $25 per participant. Space may be limited, so early registration is encouraged. Register online at go.iastate.edu/XKDABN.
