Monday’s lovely summer evening brought the Tama City Council meeting, which started a tad late as council member Larry Thomas came in a smidge tardy and out of breath from work. Once the gavel was tapped, the meeting went off and flying, first hearing a few public comments.

The first actionable agenda item was a resolution to set a public hearing for a traffic beacon; this was approved.

Next up, the council accepted the resignation of Brian Ellenbecker from the Landfill Commission and then appointed Kelly Carolyn to the newly vacant seat.

Mark Bear’s resignation was approved. Tyler Chekal’s resignation was approved along with his contract buyout.

An approximately $1,600 pager purchase for EMS was approved. Anicet Nduway and George Crews were approved as drivers for EMS.

Ambulance repairs for Tama EMS were also approved. One of the more interesting agenda items was former Tama Police Department Officer Logan Andrews’ request for purchasing certain items from the city. After some discussion, the council approved having the items, which are currently in Andrews’ possession, returned and then to look into whether the items can be gifted, sold directly to Andrews, or what. Councilman Thomas voted no; the motion passed.

The GEMT Contract was approved. The Stryker Contract was approved, with the council deciding that they’d take the AEDs off the contract and add the costs.

The Snyder Supplemental agreement was approved. In the first step to do something with Cherry Lake, the council approved for it to start to be drained, with the expense of which not to exceed $4,000.
