A history lesson and a 28E

This week’s Tama City Council Meeting

One of the first items on this week’s Tama City Council agenda was Anne Michael, who gave the council a bit of a history lesson regarding the Lincoln Highway bridge. After talking about the lush history that enriches the bridge, Anne implored the council to look into options for preserving the bridge in some fashion. The council said that they will look into what can be done.

The 28E shared help agreement between the Tama and Toledo police departments was enacted. This was right before the resignations of Officers Mitchell Cole and Logan Andrews were accepted. Both Cole and Andrews have been hired by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. Cole started July 1, while Andrews will start his new position on the 13th.

The reimbursement for the purchase of breath tests was approved as well for the department. The council also approved the use of the trail for a Golf Cart ride event.

One part-time and one full-time advanced provider were hired for Tama EMS. The part-time provider will start at $20 an hour, while the full-time provider was approved at $51,000 a year.

EMS Administrator Ruth Hildahl was approved to attend the IEMSA billing conference.

There was a lot of gutter talk when it came to the needed renovations to the library. After asking the Miron representative some questions, the contract with Miron was approved by the council. Michelle Alvarado was approved to be hired as the new Library Assistant at $17 an hour.

A resolution appointing council members to certain committees was approved. A waterline contract with the Iowa DOT was approved.

The council approved a street closure and the purchase of barricades for the September 11th tractor pull. The STC Rec program payment was approved.

A lien waiver was approved. With two already interested in purchasing, 1306 Harding St. was approved to be advertised for sale. It was approved to send all those who wish to attend to the ILOC Conference.
