No matter how you choose to spend America’s 250th Independence Day, plenty of opportunities are available to the public.

FREE DISPLAYS

The City of Tama and Toledo will be setting off fireworks from Toledo Heights Park beginning at dusk on the 4th. Both cities’ fire departments are responsible for setting off the display. A rain date has been set for July 5th, in the event of inclement weather.

Meskwaki Bingo Casino and Hotel will be hosting a firework display on Friday, July 3rd with a start time of 9:30 PM. The event is to take place behind the casino near the outdoor arena, with all ages welcome to attend.

CONSUMER FIREWORKS

In Iowa, SF303 banned cities and counties from prohibiting the use of fireworks on July 3rd, July 4th, and December 31st. Cities must allow consumer grade fireworks from the hours of 9am to 10pm on those dates. Meaning fireworks can be ignited on those dates in Tama County.

Fireworks must be launched on private or real property, Iowa code 727.2. Use of public spaces to use pyrotechnics is still illegal.
