Man life-flighted after single vehicle accident Monday

An adult male driver was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Monday afternoon after a single vehicle crash near the intersection of County Highway E64 and Q Avenue.

According to a release from the Tama County Sheriff’s Office, the Tama County 911 Dispatch Center received a report of a single vehicle traffic incident near the intersection of Highway E64 (Haven Blacktop) and Q Avenue at 12:27 p.m. on Monday.

The preliminary investigation shows that the vehicle was traveling west on Highway E64 when it left the roadway, hit the ditch bank at Q Avenue, went airborne, and came to rest in a field west of the intersection.

The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was found outside the vehicle with potentially life-threatening injuries. The driver’s condition after being flown from the scene was not known as this issue went to press.

Tama Fire, Chelsea Fire, and Tama Ambulance responded. Due to the severity of the crash, a University of Iowa AirCare helicopter was requested. The patient was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for further care.

The Tama County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and is handling the ongoing investigation.
