Spring events discussed at Elberon Legion Auxiliary
ELBERON — The James R. Kalina unit 226 American Legion Auxiliary of Elberon met March 12. With colors in place, the meeting was called to order by President Lorraine Vileta. Chaplain Marce Nekola gave an opening prayer. The “Vacant Chair,” Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary were recited by members.
The minutes of the November meeting were read by Secretary Norma Riha. Treasurer Pat Sauer gave the financial report. Both reports were approved as read.
Old business included a report from Pat on the bake sale that the Unit had Nov. 21 with the Elberon Fire and Rescue Fish Fry. The sale had a lot of baked goods and people were ready to buy. Thanks to all who brought items and especially to those who bought from us. March 14 was the Third District Spring Conference in Parkersburg. Tama County President Diane Caloud attended and there will be a report on it at the County meeting.
New business was discussing the Memorial Day Program at the National Cemetery on May 25. March 21 is the Foreign Food Fair at the Veterans Home, Elberon is to furnish three dozen kolaches, which Vileta will do. March 24 is the Tama county legion and auxiliary joint meeting to be held in Traer at 1:30 p.m. April 8 will be the Tama County Government Day program in Toledo for the county junior/senior students, beginning at 8 a.m. Each unit is to furnish four dozen cookies, which Sauer will do. April 15 is Tama county Bingo at the Veterans Home. Each unit furnishes 10 one dollar bills as prizes.
Chaplain closed the meeting with a prayer for peace. Door prize was won by Nekola and Sauer served lunch.
