The Tama County Sheriff’s office issued a press release on Monday seeking the public’s help locating a missing man. Twenty-two-year-old Nicholas Benton Collins of Garwin hasn’t been seen since Dec. 19.
Collins left a note stating he was “going away for a while” before he left his home in Garwin, going to Gladbrook. No one has seen or heard of Nicholas since his phone is reportedly shut off and has had no service since Dec. 19. Nick’s 2012 Mini Cooper was tracked to Southern Missouri as the license plate was caught on a license plate reader on Dec. 22.
Collins is a 5’10”, 180 pound white male with black hair and eyes. He was born on May 14, 2003.
“When we were first notified, there was no reason to believe Nicholas was in danger. He is an adult and can make his own choices. However, after Christmas passed with no communication, his family became very concerned. The longer there is no contact with Nicholas, the more concerned his family and law enforcement become,” Tama County Sheriff Casey Schmidt said in a statement. “We are sharing this information to raise awareness and hopefully spread the word in case anyone has seen Nicholas or knows anything about his whereabouts. Our office is doing everything we can and is actively following up on any information we receive to better pinpoint where Nicholas could be. The more details we gather from the public, the sooner we can hopefully provide answers for his family.”
