Toledo Bandstand progress updated

TOLEDO — “Completion is moving along,” Jim Roan, project manager for the renovation of Toledo’s downtown Bandstand reported on Oct. 13. As is evident to passersby. The bandstand, on the Tama County Courthouse lawn, now has a roof with Todd Long’s crew wrapping their portion of the work last Friday.
With completion now set for late October or early November now expected, the date for the dedication of the bandstand will be announced shortly.
Tim Dunn, owner of Dunn Custom Masonry, reported the brick to complete exterior coverage of the original bandstand is expected to be arriving. Margaret Scharnweber designed the styles of the brick which will match the Courthouse. The brick is described as “rounded” to meet the contours of the bandstand.
Donations to help pay for the expected $135,000 in preservation and improvements are still being accepted. Checks may be mailed to City of Toledo-Bandstand, City Clerk, 1007 S. Prospect Dr., Toledo, IA, 52342. The city is the owner of the bandstand.
Members serving on the Bandstand Preservation Committee include Toledo Mayor Brian Sokol, Denise Fletcher, Toledo City Council Member Duane Pansegrau, Jeff Shaw, Margaret Scharnweber, Toledo Economic Development Director Katherine Ollendieck, Cathy Currier-Campbell and Roan.
The improvements and sub-contractors include electrical work done by Scharnwebers-Tom Scharnweber, Russ Clemann, architect and design engineer, Dirk Henle, county building and grounds maintenance manager, Cathy Campbell-Currier, Cat Trax Productions, sub-contractor for lights and sound equipment, local suppliers Hrabak Lumber and Wilkerson Hardware and Long, the roof sub-contractor, Mayor Sokol, treasurer and Margaret Scharnweber, designer.
