A Toledo man was arrested and taken into custody last Friday after allegedly leading officers on a chase in his motorcycle and reaching speeds over 125 miles per hour.

According to a press release issued by the Tama Police Department, an officer attempted to stop a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle for a license plate violation, and the driver, later identified as Colton Kroeger of Toledo, fled at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was relocated near 5th Street and Business Highway 30, lost near 13th Street and Business 30 and again relocated near the intersection of Highway 63 and Business 30 in Toledo.

When officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop, a pursuit began, and Kroeger fled westbound on Highway 30 at speeds exceeding 125 miles per hour. The chase continued into Marshall County before the suspect turned north on Zeller Avenue and then east onto East Main Street Road. Shortly thereafter, a small single vehicle accident occurred, and a passenger was left at the scene. The driver again fled, and the passenger was taken into custody and transported to medical personnel to be treated for minor injuries.

Officers then reinitiated the pursuit, which ended in another single vehicle accident at the intersection of T-47 and 250th Street near Garwin. Kroeger was taken into custody, treated and released for minor injuries.

He has been charged with eluding over 25 miles per hour above the posted speed limit, driving while barred, speeding 124 mph in a 65 zone, reckless driving, operating while intoxicated third or subsequent offense, possession of narcotics third or subsequent offense and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. The investigation is ongoing with possible additional charges to follow.

The Tama PD was assisted by the Toledo PD, Tama County Sheriff’s Office, Meskwaki Nation Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Tama EMS and Toledo EMS. According to court records, Kroeger posted a $22,000 bond on Aug. 30, and a preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 9 at 9 a.m.
