Elberon Auxiliary holds luncheon meeting in August

ELBERON — The Elberon American Legion Auxiliary Unit 226 met Aug. 14. With the colors in place, vice-president Marce Nekola gave an opening prayer. The “Vacant Chair,” Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble to

the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary were recited by the members.

The minutes of the July meeting were read. Treasurer, Pat Sauer gave the financial report. Old business was the discussion of the Aug. 2 Tama County picnic at the Iowa Veterans Home. Lorraine reported several volunteers helped with serving and assisting the residents with trays. Elberon unit furnished tomatoes, cucumbers and pies. A large number of residents enjoyed the meal.

New business was sending a sympathy card and memorial for the family of Betty Prusha, a long time member of the auxiliary. Betty joined our unit in 1957 through her husband Richard, a Korean War veteran.

In honor of Gold Star Mothers’ month in September, members will eat at the A9 Chinese Restaurant in Toledo on Sept. 11.

Nekola won the door prize.
