This week’s Toledo city council meeting

It’s official, there is a new EMS Director in town. At this week’s Toledo Council meeting, longtime paramedic and assistant director, Jesse Brown, was hired as the new Toledo EMS Director, starting at a salary of $62,000. After a six-month probation period, Browns will receive a $2,000 wage bump upon completing a review. The council also subsequently approved posting for the open EMS positions of paramedic and assistant director.

After a short public hearing that yielded no public comments, the council approved a resolution directing the sale of the vacated alley at 105 N. Ann St. They then approved the resolution approving the form of deed.

Another resolution was then approved, authorizing the transfer of funds, as an inter-fund loan for the 300th Street Bridge project and the Visioning sidewalk project.

A resolution to transfer funds to pay for outstanding and upcoming budget appropriations was approved.

The council approved the rewording of an ordinance for the Joint Recreation Board. They then approved the waiving of the second and third readings. They also approved the 2024 and 2025 legislative codifications update.

The public works department reported that the new mower is working great. The UV sewer plant project is coming along. They are holding off on street repairs due to the rain.

They reported for the fire department that the pump on the ladder truck is pumping around 1,500 gallons a minute, when it should be pumping more, around 2,000 gallons. The possibility of fixing the issue is in the works.

Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between July 28 and Aug. 10, the department responded to 107 calls to service and made three arrests. Officer Bunce is close to graduating from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, and Officer Igor is out on his own and doing well.
