Fall Master Gardener volunteer orientation offered in Tama County

TOLEDO – The application window is open until Aug. 15 for this year’s fall Master Gardener training cohort, offered in Tama County.

Iowans wishing to become a Master Gardener volunteer register with a local county extension office, complete the online Garden Academy Moodle course, and participate in in-person volunteer orientation organized by their county office. Learn more about the program and apply to become a Master Gardener trainee online: https://www.extension.iastate.edu/mastergardener/become-master-gardener.

“Our multi-step volunteer training and orientation process ensures Master Gardener trainees acquire a balanced foundation of horticultural knowledge, learn about the types of volunteer opportunities available in their county, and connect with a support system that will help them feel confident as they start their volunteer journey,” Alicia Herzog, Iowa Master Gardener Program Manager with ISU Extension and Outreach, said.

Local extension staff can help anyone with questions about joining Master Gardener training this year, including details of when and where in-person volunteer orientation will take place in their county or extension region.

Iowa State has offered Master Gardener training for over 40 years, engaging more than 15,000 people in learning about gardening best practices.
