In the last week, there were at least two incidents where Tama Emergency Services were called into action. The first incident was a fire at a house on the corner of Oswego and 6th Street in Tama on Wednesday, July 23. Tama Fire and Rescue, Toledo Fire and Rescue, Tama EMS, and Tama Police were all on hand for the emergency. Tama County Emergency Management was also on hand for anything the residents may need.

The second incident was a suspected gas leak in the 1000 block of State Street on the evening of Monday, July 28. Tama Fire and Rescue, Tama EMS, and Tama Police were all on hand to determine the problem. After some testing, Tama Fire found no indications of natural gas, but suspected the “rotten egg” odor may be another gas. The two main alternatives were hydrogen sulfide or carbon monoxide. Tama Fire Chief Richie Jimenez stated they had called in Marty Hardon to do a “Sniff test” with his more particular equipment to figure out exactly what the gas was. Upon further review Marty confirmed emergency services suspicions

“The biggest issue was the water heater was spilling carbon monoxide into the house.”
