Ordering an ambulance

This week’s Toledo City Council meeting

The first two agenda items on this week’s Toledo City Council meeting were tabled for another week, as the people connected to the items weren’t present. Moving swiftly along like a duck through soup, the council moved on to agenda item number three, which was the purchase of a new ambulance.

Jesse Brown represented Toledo EMS and fielded all questions on the subject. Once ordered, the ambulance would be scheduled to be finished and delivered in 2027, and it will cost approximately $329,000. The currently used ambulance that the new rig will replace in two years has, at this time, approximately 120,000 miles. The council approved ordering the ambulance.

The council also approved hiring Katherine Ollendieck as the director of the newly formed Toledo Economic Development Department.

A complaint about trees at 103 Business Highway 30W was discussed and will be pursued.

An uneventful and swift public hearing was held for the vacation of allies at 105 N. Ann St. There were no public comments, and a resolution waiving the second and third reading of the ordinance was approved. Aug. 11 was the date set for the public hearing for the sale of the alley.

The public works department reported that they are mowing a lot.

City Attorney Michael Marquess reported that they are working on the final documents for the approved Kyle Howe settlements. Marquess is also working on an ongoing nuisance abatement.

Toledo Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between July 14 and 27, the department responded to 100 calls for service and made three arrests. Officer Igor Diaz is officially out on patrol on his own. Officer Bunce is excelling in the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and is set to graduate in August.
