The local Tama-Toledo branch of the American Association of University Women took advantage of the unique opportunity to advance two of our organization’s goals by supporting Ms Wheelchair America, Lisa Campbell. Following her crowning as the Iowa winner and the related article in the News Chronicle, AAUW communicated with Lisa about her next steps and learned of her desire to compete in the national competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan August 18-24.

This event includes training for leadership and advocacy. Lisa will also be asked to give a speech and share her personal platform. AAUW recognized Lisa’s strong and genuine voice for furthering the goals of inclusivity and physical accessibility we both share. A travel stipend was given to Lisa to help her participate in the national event. We hope to continue this conversation with Lisa upon her return and work with her to advance our shared goals. We encourage other community organizations to join with us in helping Lisa and sending her off with strong community support. Lisa believes there is always a way and you just need to keep trying. Good luck, Lisa!
