Hear Ye, Hear Ye

This week’s Toledo City Council meeting

Mayor pro-tem Joe Boll started this week’s Toledo City Council meeting with some style by declaring, “Hear ye, hear ye!” After approving the consent agenda, the council then went into a closed session. When they were back in open session, the council approved the tentative settlement agreements in the cases of McSweeney vs City of Toledo, and Clark vs City of Toledo related to claims of excessive force against former Police Officer Kyle Howe.

On a lighter note, Jim Roan then spoke to the council about restoring the bandstand. After talking about the history of the bandstand, funding, and the plans for the restoration, the council approved Roan moving forward with the project.

Toledo EMS Director Greg Johnson had his letter of resignation approved, and his last day will be Aug. 29. The council also approved the posting for the position.

The council approved a Right of Way purchase for the 300th Street bridge project at a cost of $4,500.

A public hearing for an alley vacation at 105 North Ann was approved and set for July 28.

A residential tax abatement for 205 1st St. was approved.

The FY25 Street Finance Report was approved and will be submitted to the Iowa DOT.

Toledo Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between June 23 and July 13, the department responded to 197 calls to service and affected four arrests.

The public works department talked about and explained the silversmith system. Director Kendall Jordan also talked about the different effects the rain had on the city’s systems. The department is mowing and will be starting street repairs.

The clerk is working on getting reports done.
