Two men taken by immigration authorities after arrest in Tama

After repeated noise complaints at a residence in Tama over the last few weeks, three men were arrested on drug charges last Monday, and two of them were taken into the custody of immigration authorities, according to a release from the Tama Police Department.
Just before 6 p.m. on June 9, officers were called to the 1000 block of Oswego Street for the sixth complaint in a period of two weeks after previously issuing warnings and a citation.
The tenants were advised to keep the music down, and in plain view, drug paraphernalia was seen in the backyard, according to the release. A search warrant was requested and approved by a judge, and three individuals were arrested following the search.
Maynor Perez-Castro, 24, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, drug stamp violation (four counts) and keeping a drug premises. Jesus Abarca-Gomez, 23, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, keeping a drug premises and fraud documents. Jose Delmar Hernandez-Gomez, 22, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and keeping a drug premises.
All three subjects were transported and booked into the Tama County Jail, but Perez-Castro was the only one released as the other two were taken by immigration authorities. This case is still being investigated, and Perez-Castro was arrested on additional charges later in the week. The Tama Police were assisted by Tama County Sheriff’s Office and the Tama K9 unit.
In response to a follow-up email, Tama County Sheriff Casey Schmidt clarified that all three men originally had Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers, but ICE removed a detainer on Perez-Castro.
“The other two were picked up by ICE on their detainers,” Schmidt said.
