Elberon Americal Legion Auxiliary hosts April meeting

ELBERSON — The Elberon American Legion Auxiliary Unit 226 met April 10. The meeting was called to order by president, Lorraine Vileta. The colors were advanced by Norma Riha and an opening prayer was given by chaplain, Marce Nekola. The Vacant Chair poem was read, the Pledge of Allegiance

to the flag and the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary were recited.

Secretary Riha called the roll and read the minutes of the Oct. 10, 2024 meeting. Treasurer Pat Sauer gave the financial report. Both were approved as read.

Old business included a report on the Oct. 18, 2024 bake sale conducted with the Elberon Fire and Rescue Department fish fry. The Unit appreciates those who bought to support the organization. The Tama County joint Legion and Auxiliary meeting was held March 25 in Reinbeck. Vileta attended. April 9, the Tama County Government Day was held for the juniors and seniors of the Tama County schools. With 95 students attending on a nice day, they were escorted by legionnaires to the county offices. Vileta furnished 4 dozen cookies for lunch and helped count ballots.

New business was draping the charter for its 14-year member, Barb Formanek. Two scholarship applications were read. A thank you was read from Gene Formanek. Birthday cards were signed for Dorothy Hayek and Todd Rank. On April 16, the Unit will help with Bingo at the Iowa Veterans Home.

The May 8 meeting will be held in Belle Plaine at 11:30 a.m. for lunch.

Riha won the door prize. Sauer was hostess.
