Sidewalks and department reports

This week’s Tama City Council Meeting

This week’s Tama City Council meeting started with the approval of a special assessment waiver for a local property. From there the council moved on to talk about EMS.

Currently, funds coming in via the EMS transfer contract are split with 80% going into the general fund and 20% going into the EMS trust. After some discussion, the council decided to change it to a 70/30 split and reevaluate in a couple of months.

Sidewalks were the subject of discussion for a large chunk of the meeting. Several different aspects of the sidewalk improvement project were talked about. The council in the end decided to survey the town’s sidewalks to see about the troubled areas before doing anything else.

Kris Collins with the Tama Public Library was first up for reports saying that they’ve expanded hours and programming. The library will become haunted for Halloween and be in the Homecoming Parade.

The Fire Department reported getting the chassis in so that the new truck could start being built. A grant for new gear has been received and next month the department will host a pancake supper.

EMS reported receiving a record-breaking 135 calls to service last month, 43 of which were transfers. So far for the month of September, 65 calls have been received.

The public works department reported working on the levy and planning on a regrade of business 30. The Pilot test water program was stalled for a few days as they did not receive enough chemicals. The new street sweeper is arriving this week.
