August meeting held by Elberon Auxiliary

ELBERON – The Elberon American Legion Auxiliary Unit 226 met Aug. 8 with the meeting opening in usual form.

Secretary Norma Riha called the roll of officers and read the minutes of the July meeting. Treasurer Pat Sauer gave the financial report. Both reports approved as read.

Old business included the Aug. 3 Tama County picnic that the Auxiliary hosted at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. There were 111 residents that came through the food line. Those needing assistance with the food tray or wheel chair were helped. Some did the serving of food.

The black drape was removed from the charter honoring Auxiliary member, Mary Vavroch.

New business included one pin fine and the signing of cards for friends and members. A sympathy card was signed for Elberon legionnaire, George Horton on the loss of his wife, Midge. A memorial was included. Thinking of you cards were signed for Peg Dvorak and for auxiliary members Dorothy Hayek and Marne Chalupsky.

The members discussed having a bake sale with one of the Elberon Fire and Rescue fish fry suppers this fall, will bring it up next month again.

Gold Star Mother’s day is Sept. 29. To honor them, the Unit will meet for a noon lunch at the Meskwaki Lucky’s cafe for its Sept. 12 meeting.

Each member brought a dozen cookies for lunch. Members each took home a variety dozen of cookies.

Lorraine Vileta won the door prize.
