MARSHALLTOWN – Legendary Iowa high school baseball coach Kent Stock, subject of the 2007 movie “The Final Season” — a true story filmed mostly in nearby Benton County in 2006 — visited and spoke at the Iowa Veterans Home last week Thursday, Aug. 15, and autographed copies of his book “Heading for Home: My Journey from Little League to Hollywood” for members of the Marshalltown High School Baseball program, visitors and residents.

Stock visited the Iowa Veterans Home to talk about leadership and perseverance with residents, staff, and the community.

The 2007 film tells the story of the 1991 Norway, Iowa high school storied baseball program’s historic last season, winning the school’s record 20th and final state championship at a game held here in Marshalltown, before being consolidated into a larger district, Benton Community, the following year.

Stock is portrayed by actor Sean Astin of “Rudy” (1993), “Goonies” (1985) and other notable films.
