Toledo council wraps up a speedy meeting quickly
TOLEDO – This week’s Toledo City Council meeting seemed to break all land speed records, as it was started and finished in less than half an hour. This blink and you miss it meeting started with a resolution to amend the city personnel handbook with some new policies.
The new police shift differential pay and police reserve pay policies were approved to be added to the handbook. The second resolution was to adopt certain policies required for State of Iowa’s ARP Downtown Housing Grant funding, which was approved.
A public hearing was set for Sept. 23 for the bid letting of the 134 E. High St. project.
The final payment to Dave Schmitt Construction for the Woodlawn Addition was approved in the amount of $16,910.81 and $101,837.94.
The Tama-Toledo Chamber of Commerce was approved for use of Toledo Heights Park in November and December for Jolly Lights at the Heights. Two utility/mowing liens were approved.
The Public Works department reported having had a water main break on Main Street. The Silversmith system is still being learned, including its GPS capabilities. The brush pile was burnt with multiple large trees inside.
The Fire Department’s Ladder truck is out of order due to a leak. Delrae Hennessy and Rhonda Staker were hired part-time by Toledo EMS. City Attorney Michael Marquess reported that nuisance abatement review hearings are coming up.
Toledo Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between July 8 and 21st, they responded to 108 calls to service and affected five arrests. Two nuisance properties were cleaned up by a contractor. There is an ongoing investigation into an individual roaming around Toledo in a mask brandishing a machete.
The clerk reported working on the 2025 budget and that the auditor will be coming in August.
