TOLEDO – The biggest area of discussion at Monday morning’s bright and early Supervisors meeting was the agenda item concerning the appointment of an interim zoning administrator. The 15 minute comment time allowed multiple people from the crowd to have their say on the topic, including former Tama County Supervisor and current Toledo Public Works director Kendall Jordan.

“I would encourage you to go through the applications and pick somebody that actually has some knowledge of zoning behind them and can actually read laws, ordinances and understand them. Don’t be a puppet on a string. You are out there for the entire county, not just one district, the entire county,” Jordan said. “Don’t listen to the point two percent that seems to be the loud people.”

Jordan then engaged in a tense back and forth with Board Chairman Curt Hilmer. The supervisors decided to make Garrison Reekers, the Tama County Safety Director, the temporary Zoning Administrator due to zoning work getting backed up. The supervisors stated that they would go through the applications and start doing interviews for the position.

County Engineer Ben Daleske gave his report, stating that spot rock is being put down, and debris is still being cleaned up from the flooding a few weeks ago. Iowa Bridge and Culvert are working, and quotes are being taken for a skid loader.

Mid-American is on schedule with three towers done already, and the completion of the project is estimated for September. V18 was approved for a closure for the Chelsea Fire Department Car Show.

The dead end part of L Avenue was approved to be vacated. This comes after the befuddlement of last week when the announcement of the L Avenue road vacation brought much confusion amongst a few locals, who wondered how an Avenue goes on holiday.

The homestead/military 2024 list was approved.

Claims totaling $133,168.82 were approved.
