After another long school year had concluded the South Tama Community School District gathered staff for a final retirement and service award ceremony, beginning with Superintendent John Cain delivering a short speech touching on some of the ups and downs of the school year that just came to a close. He thanked staff for their efforts and even cracked a few inside jokes. After all was said and done, a brunch was served, with retirees and their families going through the line first.
After brunch had been eaten, the award ceremony officially began. For the past few years, the Trojan Way Awards have become a high honor in the district. This year was no different with many recipients honored. Nominees stood at the front of the room as someone who either nominated them or was a designated speaker read aloud some prepared words. Far in away the most lengthy portion of the ceremony, many staff were honored.
Employees were then recognized for service awards, honoring their time commitment to the district. This year recipients were 5,10,15,20, and 25 years deep into their service of the STC School District.
Staff who completed their masters degrees during the past school year were recognized in addition to a district themed onesie given to staff who had a baby during the subsequent school year.
Retirees were then honored. With plenty of laughs, smiles, and tears, speakers selected by the retiring staff members were tasked with reading out a prepared statement and honoring their soon to be retired colleagues.
