TAMA – Enright-Schroder Tama American Legion Post 73, American Legion post 73 Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, and Tama-Toledo Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6607 members gathered for multiple services around the city of Tama and now Montour. Montour’s chapter of the American legion recently merged with Tama’s, to honor that another service was added at the Montour Cemetery. Other services included: St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Oak Hill Cemetery, and a Wreath Ceremony at Iowa River Bridge.
TOLEDO – Reinig-Friedrich Post 72 Toledo American Legion and Sons of the American Legion members gathered for three Memorial Day services on Monday. Toledo American Legion Post 72 Commander Elizabeth Ledvina led the services, beginning with a small speech. Starting at Hayes Cemetery in the morning, many neighbors attended the rural service. At 11 observers gathered on the lawn of the Courthouse to engage in the service.
Ledvina commented in her address how great the turn out was this year, with many others in attendance voicing their agreement.
At noon the final service of the day was held at Woodlawn Cemetery. Names of Tama County Veterans who have passed away in the last year were read aloud before a 21 gun salute was performed.
