Tama Soil and Water Conservation District celebrates Conservation Week

TOLEDO — The Tama Soil and Water Conservation District is celebrating the 83rd Annual Soil and Water Conservation Week April 28 – May 5. This year, the theme “May the Forest Be with You Always” takes center stage. This theme underscores the critical interplay between soil and water conservation and the resilience of our forests.

Every year, SWCDs across the country celebrate Stewardship Week to promote natural resource conservation. Tama SWCD joins Iowa’s 100 Soil and Water Conservation Districts, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and others who provide leadership in soil health, soil conservation, water quality and the protection and enhancement of Iowa’s natural resources.

• The District’s annual Stewardship Week Poster Contest winner will be announced.

• Northern red oak seedlings will be delivered to 322 sixth graders in the Green Mountain-Garwin, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, North Tama, Union, Meskwaki and South Tama school districts.

• 249 students from these school districts will be hosted at this year’s 5th Grade Outdoor Classroom, a nearly-annual tradition since 1974. The kids will spend the day rotating through 20-minute sessions on topics like recycling, water quality, soils and wildlife.
