TAMA Ã’ Kaylynn Murty, of rural Tama, is this year’s recipient of Tama Soil & Water Conservation District’s $1,000 High School Scholarship and is the daughter of Tim and Ashley Murty. She is finishing her senior year at South Tama County High School before heading to Iowa State University majoring in Agricultural Studies with emphases in agronomy, animal science and ag business.

Murty has grown up on her family’s farm, active in all aspects of it. She took advantage of COVID’s isolation time to become even more deeply involved in the family operation, learning more about its crop inputs and instilling her interest in agronomy. Her lifelong work with cattle on the farm, in 4-H and FFA and with Mid-Iowa Youth Beef Team has ingrained her interest in animal science. Helping her dad with cattle buying and selling has instilled her interest in ag business, already inspiring her to secure an ag loan to purchase her first semi load of feeder calves.
