Tama County Community Foundation donates $4,000 for Early Childhood Services

DES MOINES — LSI received $4,000 from Tama Community Foundation to support Early Childhood Home Visitation Services.

LSI utilizes Healthy Families America an evidence-based home-visiting model, in counties across the state, including Tama. LSI’s HFA provides free prevention services to at-risk parents who are pregnant or who have children ages 0-3 years. The program focuses on reducing abuse and promoting healthy, safe and self-sufficient families.

“We are grateful to Tama County Community Foundation for this generous gift,” said Amanda McKee, Director of Early Childhood Services. “Thanks to community partners like the Foundation, we can continue to provide evidence-based services that strengthen Iowan families.”

In FY23, 100% of enrolled families remained abuse-free. Participation in the program is free and voluntary. HFA programming began in 2020 in Tama County and has served as a consistent resource for women and children. Once enrolled in the program, staff work with participants to set goals and complete weekly visits, which use evidence-based curriculum, role modeling and assessment of improvements.

LSI is one of Iowa’s largest human services agencies and impacts thousands of Iowans annually through child abuse prevention, services for families and youth in crisis, services for people with disabilities and immigrant and refugee services. LSI is nationally accredited and proudly serves people of all ages, abilities, religions, sexes, gender identities, national origins, ethnicities, races and sexual orientations.
