Tama man charged with felony domestic abuse assault, false imprisonment

TAMA – Tama man Drew Mathes was arrested on March 14 and charged with a pair of felony domestic assault offenses and false imprisonment.

According to a criminal complaint from the Tama Police Department, Mathes, 39, repeatedly beat and put his alleged victim in a stranglehold. Mathes also stopped his victim from calling for help, pulled his victim’s hair and beat his victim when the victim tried to leave. In a separate criminal complaint, Mathes was also charged with attempting to stop the victim from calling for help by “biting the web of (the victim’s) hand” and causing a laceration.

Mathes was charged with domestic abuse assault impeding blood flow/causing bodily injury and domestic abuse assault — third or subsequent offense, both Class D felonies, false imprisonment, a serious misdemeanor, and obstruction of emergency communications, a simple misdemeanor. He was released after posting bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on April 4 at 9 a.m.
