Stuck between the FBI and a trash can

This week’s Toledo City Council meeting

TOLEDO – This week’s Toledo Council meeting wrapped up in record time. First on the agenda was Marty Wymore, who spoke to the council about the catalyst grant that would be acquired to help fix up 132 High St., the Masonic Temple building. The city passed a resolution to pay and start work on the building, for which they will later be reimbursed when the grant comes through. They also approved a pay request to Dunn Custom Masonry for approximately $11,000 for the project.

Toledo Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between Feb. 26 and March 10, the department received 162 calls for service, and affected four arrests. The department’s fleet is having trouble again with the Durango having to be towed for an issue.

There have been three break-ins at the former Juvenile Home. The underaged offenders have been caught and referred to Juvenile court. Self-checkout thefts have increased recently with offenders becoming more brazen and creative.

The chief attended a job fair and has received no applicants. Luck was not in Quigley’s corner as his booth was placed between the FBI and a garbage can. Currently, there are two open spots available on the Toledo police roster. Toledo assistant clerk Kaiyla Wacha helped the chief earn a grant of about $12,000 for shields.

Quigley has also been workshopping community relation events including Coffee with a Cop and a Citizens Academy, where locals can come and learn more about law enforcement.
