Lawsuits and salaries

This week’s Tama city council meeting

TAMA – One of the biggest pieces of information in this week’s Tama City Council meeting was the fact that Tama is now subject to a lawsuit due to a suit filed against former Toledo Police Officer Kyle Howe and former Tama Police Officer Anthony Rodriguez.

The meeting started with a discussion over a nuisance abatement. After talking with the owner about what needs to be done with the property, the council gave the owner until March to get the area cleaned.

Second up was EMS. EMS Head Jimmy Hicklin talked to the council about giving salaries to two employees. The employees will work 48-hour weeks. The council approved them.

The council also approved a payment to close out the contract with Boulder Construction for the Lincoln Highway Bridge. Both Thomas and Hardons were approved to start doing electrical work on different parts of the paper mill property.

The council set a public hearing for Friday the 9th at 5:30 p.m. for a water plant project. It was also approved for the water department to replace their old PH meter.

It was approved to get started on the bidding process for the State Street culvert project from 3rd Street North.

A public hearing was set for Feb. 19 at 5:30 pm to approve a budget amendment. A resolution was passed that approved an economic development loan to Flex Fitness to help with repairs to the building at 220 W. 3rd St., the former newspaper office.

The council did the PD’s take home car evaluation, approved it, and agreed to revisit it in a few months.

The council increased the amount of money for fireworks from $5,000 to $8,000. Also approved was an addendum to the sewer generator contract as the wording needed to be redone.
