TOLEDO – Last week, while everyone was still snuggled in their Christmas sweaters, the Toledo Council braved the chilly weather to hold a meeting on the 27th. A whole lot of swearing went on, starting with Brian Sokol, who was sworn in as Mayor of Toledo for another term. Council members Joe Boll and Steve Vesley stood together for a double-whammy swearing-in. Jeremy Cremeans, whose term on the Toledo Council has come to an end, was thanked for his service and presented with a certificate.

The council started off by approving a resolution to give public works employees a $500 stipend for uniforms and clothing. This new policy is cheaper than the old one.

A new UV waste wastewater disinfection system was approved. The new system will use no chlorine and cost an estimated $300,000. The wastewater treatment facility disinfection improvements were approved.

A tax abatement and three liens were approved.

The council also appointed Amy Doyle to the Zoning Commission for a term of five years.

Kendall Jordan, head of the public works department, reported that they will be helping with the removal of concrete from manholes. They are also working towards sewer line projects and getting ready for winter.

The city clerk is working on the budget and has a quote for fiber lines that will be discussed further at their Jan. 8 meeting.

Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between Dec. 11 and 26, the department responded to 144 calls to service. Six adults were arrested with 10 charges in total, there was also one juvenile referral that had three charges. Three search warrants were executed in this time as well. The department is still sifting through applicants for the two open positions.
