Another individual charged with using counterfeit money to buy lotto tickets

Not long after two Tama women were charged with felony fraud for allegedly using counterfeit money to buy lottery tickets at the Jiffy South convenience store in November, another individual has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Michael Joseph Scott, 35, of Tama, was arrested on Dec. 1 and charged with three counts of felony forgery, four counts of lottery — forged/theft of ticket and four counts of lottery — fraud/coerce/tamper by the Tama Police Department. Court documents allege Scott was part of a conspiracy that also included Jacinda Buchanan and Christina Hefler to purchase the tickets and then cash out over $150 in winnings.

Both Scott and Buchanan are considered habitual offenders due to each having two prior felony convictions. Scott was scheduled to appear for arraignment on Thursday.
