Tama women arrested for allegedly buying lottery tickets with counterfeit money

Two Tama women have been arrested and charged with multiple counts of felony forgery after allegedly buying lottery tickets with counterfeit money at the Jiffy South convenience store.

According to criminal complaints, Jacinda Buchanan, 29, and Cristina Hefler, 31, used the fake cash to buy at least four lottery tickets on Nov. 19. Buchanan is accused of using $100 in counterfeit money, and the reports indicate four winning tickets were returned.

In connection with the same investigation, Buchanan, who had an active Department of Corrections warrant, has also been charged with providing false information and possession of drug paraphernalia after allegedly giving a fake name during the execution of a search warrant at her residence.

On the lottery ticket charges, Hefler is being held on a $5,000 bond, and a preliminary hearing was set for Nov. 30. Buchanan is being held on a $5,000 bond, and a preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 1.
