A T-Rex, Spiderman, and Ghostface walk onto the high school parking lot; that’s not a joke; that is what happened, and it was last Saturday. Trunk ‘R Treat started out the festivities with costumed children walking about at the STC High School, filling up their pumpkins with all sorts of delights.

Saturday’s events didn’t end there as down at the Tama Civic Center, a soup supper was held before the biggest event of the evening. The Haunted Hayride kicked off at seven with a line of people waiting eagerly. The ride took locals around Cherry Lake, where scares and frights awaited them behind every bush. Screams of delight and genuine fright could be heard for blocks throughout Tama.

The STC high school art club joined in the Halloween fun by painting faces at the Trunk ‘R Treat and scaring at the hayride. Groups of art club students had been formed to create props and prepare for the event. The groups centered on the topics of horror movies, one was “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” themed. Senior and art club member, Yoselin Garcia, played a version of Leatherface for the event hunting down two victims. Garcia summed up many locals’ only criticism of the hayride by saying that the experience ended too soon.
