New Jobs and AC units

Monday night’s Toledo city council meeting

TOLEDO – A new public works position was approved at Monday’s Toledo City Council meeting. Since two employees of the Public Works department have left recently, Public Works Director Kendall Jordan has found himself spending more time at the sewer plant.

With Kendall at the sewer plant, the new position of supervisor was made to have a second in charge. Curt Graff will be promoted to this position with his wage increasing to $30 an hour. It was also approved for the Public Works department to advertise and hire a new Water and Wastewater operator.

Toledo EMS Director Greg Johnson attended the meeting to request a cooling and heating unit in the ambulance bay. The summer’s excessive heat has created a multitude of problems, including the overheating of medicines. With a quote from Scharnweber’s, the unit was approved. Greg also told of the current EMS staffing issues and encouraged anyone who wants to be an ambulance driver or paramedic to contact him.

The city clerk was approved to attend the fall IMFOA conference from Oct. 18-20. The clerk is also looking into getting new phones and fiber internet.

Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between Aug. 28 and Sept. 10, the Toledo Police

Department responded to 168 calls to service. Four arrests were made, one of which was a juvenile.

Both Toledo and Tama police departments executed search warrants on a location in Toledo. Officer Vern Jefferson is at his School Resource Officer certification class at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Lt. Wunn completed recertification as a drug recognition expert. The department also completed two enhanced traffic safety projects.

On Oct. 7, testing will be done for the open patrol position, interviews will be conducted after.
