Notes from the Toledo city council meeting
At the Toledo City Council meeting on Monday, June 26, the partial street closure of Main Street for The Flaming Office on the day of RAGBRAI was approved.
RAGBRAI was also on the docket for a short and sweet public hearing. An amendment adding language in preparation for the overnight stay passed, as well as the resolution waiving the second and third readings of the RAGBRAI ordinance. The council decided as well that the City Clerk’s office shall have normal hours on RAGBRAI.
The council discussed again the chickens that are being raised at Birkwood Village. Again, no representative from Birkwood Village was present for an explanation. It was decided by the council that Birkwood shall have no exception to the city ordinance and not be allowed to have chickens on their property.
The council authorized the police department to enter into a $64,000 five-year contract with Motorola for new dash cams.
The Public Works Department reported that the new street sweeper has arrived. The crosswalk on South Broadway is nearing completion. This week the public works department is flushing hydrants, and Tuesday night’s spraying for mosquitoes has started.
Toledo Police Chief Quigley reported that between June 12 and 24, they had 178 calls to service and made four arrests. The great time the police department had participating in the Toledo Public Libraries Pedalpalooza was also mentioned.
The Silversmith Asset management program was approved by the council. The cost for the first year is $7,000,, and an Ipad will be provided by the company.
The FY24 wages for the City of Toledo employees were approved. A resolution authorizing the normal transfer of funds was approved.
