The time warp
County supervisors change public comment times
TOLEDO – The main bit of business on the agenda for the Tama County Supervisors at their June 5 meeting was the public comment policy. Many members of the public were allowed to speak their opinions during an open discussion time on the topic.
It was the general consensus of the present community members that limiting public comment time to 15 minutes would be tantamount to a gag order. The supervisors’ thoughts were that it would make the meeting more civil and get rid of the long silences that have plagued recent meetings.
In the end, it was decided to split up the 30 minute public comment time into two 15 minute sections. The first 15 minutes will stay the same, allowing any community members to bring up county issues. The second 15 minutes will be dedicated only to public comment on action items listed on that week’s agenda.
The County Engineer reported the 4-10 days have started. Currently, the blades and the durapatcher are out working. Work on the Toledo Deer Creek is moving along, with brush being cleared.
The supervisors also approved Conservation Fund transfers of $178,000 and $30,000. Use of the courthouse lawn on June 25 at 6:30 was approved as well. Claims totaling $179,001.11 were approved.
