A recap of Monday’s Tama city council meeting

At the Monday, May 15, Tama City Council meeting, the possibility of a School Resource Officer was discussed, and it was eventually decided to get more information before anything was done. It was also told by Chief Bina that a supervisor from the 6th Judicial Juvenile Court informed him that South Tama is the highest for per-population cases in the area.

The council approved the renewal of the five-year program with Axon body cameras, which will cost $26,000.

The council accepted the official retirement of Don Weitzell from EMS. It was approved to take out the old lights at the Tama ball diamond. The council accepted a bid for the construction of a new public works building.

No testing or anything has come back on the Lincoln Highway bridge as of yet. The police have stayed busy including a day when Officer Tyler Ayala-Pagan rescued a two-week-old owl.

Wastewater had its annual inspection and is awaiting the final report.

The EMS department reported that they are hosting a dunk tank at the Lincoln Highway Days festival this weekend.

The nuisance officer cleaned up three properties and is getting multiple requests for mowing.

The water department is flushing hydrants this month, and they got the sand for the new water filter.

The Public Works department reported that work on Harding Street is done.
