On Tuesday, Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate presented Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School with the 2021-2022 Carrie Chapman Catt Award for registering 90% of eligible student voters.

“Last year, the senior class at Gladbrook-Reinbeck stepped up to the plate and got started in the voting process by getting registered,” Secretary Pate said. “Great job by the teachers and administrators here to engage students in civics. The students in the school are showing dedication to their community by registering to vote.”

The Carrie Chapman Catt Award was named after the famous Iowan who devoted her life to the expansion of women’s rights and international peace. Catt played an instrumental part in securing the passage of the 19th Amendment on Aug. 26, 1920, granting women access to vote.

“It is a ‘GReat’ honor to be awarded the Carrie Chapman Catt Award,” said Chelsey Schultz, a social studies teacher at Gladbrook-Reinbeck. “As a school, GR has set a goal to help students be well-rounded and active community members. Participating in this movement to get students registered to vote is one step in that direction. G-R looks forward to continuing this movement and sparking students’ curiosity in civic involvement.”
