Wieting’s Children’s Theatre Camp is Back

The Call of the Matterhorn is an exciting musical adventure which takes place high above the foothills of the Swiss Alps. This production is only for the bravest of heart. It is filled with magic, mystery, and tests of true character!

This musical is designed for students at all levels of theatre experience. Campers will audition, rehearse and perform this musical alongside three professional teaching artists in one week! The Call of the Matterhorn is a brand new production with a script by Katie Colletta and original music by Jason Sifford from the Footliters Traveling Playhouse in Coralville.

This camp is open to 50 children entering 2nd grade and up. Camp will be held July 25th-29th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. with the final performance on Friday, July 29th at 7 p.m. The cost is $80 per student which includes a camp photo and t-shirt.

This is a great opportunity for students to learn theatre skills and perform for their families and friends. Some of the skills learned are being comfortable in front of a crowd, vocal projection, stage directions and technical aspects of theatre. Performers learn how to cooperate and work as a team to put on a musical in one week while having fun!

After this experience students usually fall into one of three groups. They first discover that musical theatre is probably not for them. The second enjoyed the experience and will try out for plays in high school and support the arts in their community as adults. The final group feels that acting is in their blood and will pursue some form of it as a career. Many of our current thespians began with the Wieting’s Children’s Theatre Camp experience.

Only one question remains … will YOU answer The Call of the Matterhorn?
