Purks to host free haunted walkway in Tama

In the absence of the Haunted Hayride activity this year, Kelly and Joe Purk have put together a neighborhood outdoor haunted Halloween experience at their residence on E 4th Street in Tama. Their yard is overflowing with spooky decorations, lighting, effects and plenty of surprises for all ages looking for a fun and free outing during the Halloween weekend. -- Photos by Darvin Graham

Kelly and Joe Purk stand among their recently completed Haunted Walkway on E 4th Street in Tama. The couple will be opening up their yard for trick-or-treaters of all ages to come by Oct. 29-31 from 7-10 p.m. to get in the Halloween spirit. The display is full of scares and surprises and was organized this year after the annual Haunted Hayride event was canceled for the second straight year due to a lack of volunteers.

The Purks, who have lived in the southeast Tama neighborhood for a number of years, said they hope the display will help bring back trick-or-treaters to the area. The Haunted Walkway plans to be open free of charge with treats being handed out Sunday evening. The address for the Purk residence is 310 E 4th St. in Tama.
