The Toledo Fire Department responded to a house fire on the morning of Oct. 22 in the 700 block of S Main Street, roughly one block north of Hardee’s.

Toledo Police Sergeant Dan Quigley was on patrol Friday morning around 8:30 a.m. and witnessed suspicious looking smoke rising up past the treeline in the S Main Street neighborhood.

When Quigley arrived he witnessed the attached garage in flames and quickly got the attention of the two occupants in the house and helped them to safety as fire and EMS units were one their way.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

It is believed that the fire started along the west wall of the garage, though an exact cause was yet unknown. According to Toledo Fire Chief Kendall Jordan, the fire department did not see any evidence of foul play once they surveyed the scene.

The blaze enacted significant damage to the home as well as destroyed two vehicles that were parked near the garage.

Toledo and Tama firefighters were on site for roughly two hours battling the blaze that overtook the garage and had begun spreading into the house. Much of the house that is still standing also took significant water and smoke damage as a result of the incident.

The Toledo Fire Department was assisted by Tama Fire, Toledo Police, Tama Police, Toledo EMS, Tama County Sheriff’s Office and Tama County Emergency Management.
