Those visiting Otter Creek Lake recently have been met with an unfamiliar scene upon arrival. This summer the lake was drained to make way for dredging that will occur in 2022 as part of the Lake Restoration Project being done by the county in partnership with the Iowa DNR. Draining began this summer with the majority of the water and fish in the lake flowing easily into Otter Creek. The lake at its deepest measured 23 feet. Once excavation work is complete it will increase the depth to between 27 to 30 feet.

On Oct. 10 Tama County Conservation held a Fall Festival at Otter Creek Lake and Park. Around 550 people were in attendance to enjoy kids activities, market vendors, food stands and presentations from the Blank Park Zoo and Bruce Rhodes with the Iowa Trappers Association. The annual Tama County Conservation Fun Night fundraiser was held the night before and reportedly drew in a grand total of $6,921 that will go toward the lake restoration project.
